A tragic incident on the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia has left one person dead and four others injured, raising serious questions about amusement park safety and the legal rights of those affected.
The incident occurred on Monday, October 12, 2026, shortly before 4 p.m. at the theme park in Mableton, Georgia. According to WSB-TV Channel 2, emergency responders arrived following an incident involving the Goliath roller coaster.
For individuals injured in the incident and families seeking answers, understanding their rights may be an important part of the recovery process.

What Happened on the Goliath Roller Coaster?
The ride involved is one of the park’s best-known attractions, Goliath. Since opening in 2006, the roller coaster has carried riders at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour with drops of up to 175 feet.
Cobb County Police identified the deceased guest as 42-year-old Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem. According to police, he was ejected from the roller coaster, struck other riders, and fell beneath the attraction.
Four of those riders were reportedly injured and taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, the remaining passengers were left on the stalled coaster, and crews brought them down in small groups using a harness system before the park was evacuated.
In response to the incident, Six Flags said it was deeply saddened and is cooperating fully with local authorities. The company also temporarily closed nine similar roller coasters at parks across the United States and Canada as a precaution while the investigation continues.
That investigation now involves two agencies which include detectives from the Cobb County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit who are leading the inquiry, and the Georgia Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire, which oversees amusement ride inspections in the state, who are examining the ride’s equipment. So far, no mechanical or restraint failure has been established, and the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
What Should You Do If You Were Injured at Six Flags?
If you or a family member suffered injuries during the Goliath incident, the steps you take in the coming days may help protect both your health and your rights:
- Seek medical attention. Even injuries that seem minor at first may require further evaluation.
- Document your experience. Preserve photographs, videos, tickets, medical records, and any communications with park representatives.
- Identify witnesses. Contact information from others who witnessed the incident may help establish what occurred.
- Preserve evidence. Keep relevant documents and avoid deleting photographs or messages related to the incident.
- Speak with a personal injury attorney. An attorney can help assess your circumstances and explain your legal options.
Can Injured Guests Pursue Compensation?
Georgia law generally requires businesses, including amusement parks, to exercise reasonable care for the safety of lawful visitors. When a ride causes serious harm, the central question becomes whether the park met these requirements.
The answer will depend largely on what the investigation uncovers. As investigators review the incident, potential legal issues may involve ride maintenance, safety restraints, inspections, employee procedures, or other circumstances that contributed to an injury.
Even so, an accident on its own does not automatically establish negligence. For that reason, determining whether a legal claim exists requires a careful look at the evidence and the applicable law.
If that evidence does show that negligence caused your injuries, recoverable damages may include medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other related losses. Beyond these individual losses, families who lost a loved one may also have grounds to explore a wrongful death claim.
